The LTFU LifeLinks newsletter is sent quarterly to people who have undergone treatment through Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's transplant program.
As those of you who have had a transplant know, the financial burdens involved can greatly contribute to the stress faced by patients and their families.
Patients with limited or no insurance coverage face obstacles to medical care both during and after the transplant. As we increase medical knowledge through our research, we keep in mind the importance of providing treatments that are not only effective, but also accessible to those who need them.
The current feature article describes research that explores how cost can affect transplant success. This type of research helps us understand the overall impact of transplantation on our patients and their families.
Best regards, Paul Martin, M.D. Director, Long-Term Follow-Up
