For the 9th consecutive year I'm hiking and climbing a mountain to raise money for breast cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Every penny raised is earmarked for this purpose.
In previous years I've summited Mt. Rainier (three times), Oregon's Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams. This year I will climb Mt. Olympus in beautiful Olympic National Park.
Sometimes the weather is warm, brilliant and sunny. Other times it is bone chilling cold and wet with winds so violent that we risk being blown down while simply standing still.
At times I feel euphoric. Other times nauseous. Once I spent more than 12 hours summiting and descending Mt. Adams with less than a cup of water because I couldn't hold anything down without tossing it back up. But it was little more than a mild inconvenience compared to what victims of cancer endure.
This year I'll be climbing a mountain again with the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer, benefitting Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
