Creative Cancer Walk
On September 1st, 2010, I'm going to hike from Bellingham To LA. I'm going to pursue my two passions. However, this time I'm not hiking alone. Vickie the Goat is also walking.
Hiking long distances to help fight cancer and sell my screenplay. 51 percent of the profits from the screenplay will go to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
That adds a very creative aspect to this hike. I've also set this WebTribute page so that people can donate directly to the Center.
This is my second long hike
My first hike was from September 1, 2006 till November 8, 2007. I hiked 5,000 miles Bellingham to Key West, Fl.
I had had it so it was difficult to tell what had be donated. We know for sure that it was over 11,000 dollars, but I had a feeling some might have slipped through the cracks.
Cancer and my life
Cancer touched my life early. A young Carolyn Gregory (my mother) was diagnosed with leukemia while pregnant with me. I was prematurely born and after several months the Hutchinson Center helped extend her life with a bone marrow transplant.
In 1999 she lost a second battle with cancer.
In 2006 my best friend gave me an idea. Walk across the country. A short 30 days later I put on a backpack and left Bellingham on foot. I didn't stop until I arrived in Key West.
Along the way I stayed with nearly a hundred strangers. It was a grassroots effort that raised $11,000 in donations, $5.00 and $10.00 at a time.
