It was an emotional experience, one I needed to help process the grief and loss I suffered losing my brother and my good friend within two weeks of each other. It was therapeutic and cathartic. And raising $5K felt really, really good.
I wrote up a satirical "program review" for all my work colleagues who contributed, and part of that review was my foward looking plan for 2017. I put in a headcount request for "an additional 4 BIS" (which is Amazon-speak for butts-in-seats) and a target of $10k. It was a bit tongue in cheek, but it worked. Smack Down Cancer is now an official Obliteride team, and we're going to beat our goal.
We are committing to ride Obliteride this August because we believe research is the fastest path to curing cancer and we also believe the team at Fred Hutch can get us there. More than 300 labs and projects are working hard to save the lives of people all over the world by conducting innovative, high-impact cancer research. It's a fantastic organization, it's local, and all the money raised goes straight to them.
Please join us in this effort to put cancer in its place, behind us. And if you get the notion, join our team!!!
