Hey Everybody! I’ve been busy training for the 2017 Ride Around Washington (RAW) Ride. This year’s leg goes from Metaline Falls near Spokane, WA to LaConnor, WA from July 29th through August 5th. It’s a ride of 430 miles with 25,000 feet of climbing over 6 days! https://www.cascade.org/rides-tours/ride-around-washington This will be a first for me. With all the training hours in the saddle, I’ve had time to do some thinking....why not try to raise some funds for causes very near and dear to me? One of those causes is the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
Back in 2012, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Working with University of Washington Medicine and Fred Hutch, I went through surgical treatment and as of today am still cancer free!
But there is so much to be done for prostate cancer. Early diagnosis is still key and very controversial. New methods of treatment are being developed that can improve not only the treatment for prostate cancer, but the mitigation of treatment side effects that can be life altering for so many. I know, as I live with the effects of my surgery every day.
My goal is to raise funds for prostate cancer research through Fred Hutch. Without them, I would not be making the ride this summer!
If you feel that you can help support this effort with a donation, it would mean so much to me! I’ll be doing updates as my training goes along to let you know how I’m doing. So far I’ve logged over 1000 miles on the road bike, 100 miles on the mountain bike, and many hours earlier this year on the indoor trainer. I will also post updates and pictures from the ride as it goes along. Stay tuned!
Thanks
Brad
